About Us - Slidell Support Group
Scleroderma Support Groups Slidell, Lafayette and Shreveport, LA

The Scleroderma Support Group, North Shore was organized in October 1997 in response to the needs of a newly diagnosed patient.

Maxine Konrick and Shirley Walterhouse, both of Slidell and both scleroderma patients, are founders and co-leaders.

The group began with 12 patients and has grown to a current (March 2001) membership of 85 patients and 32 family members, physicians and friends.

The group is actively involved in support, education, increasing public awareness, and raising funds for medical care for persons in our area who would not otherwise be able to afford that care. We believe we are the only such sclerdoerma group to help to provide direct patient care.

Our monthly newletter "Insight" provides support and information on medical issues of interest to the group and is free to all members. Some members live such a distance away they are never able to attend a group meeting. "Insight" is the only link they have to people who are going through the same problems of living day to day with a chronic disease.

At other meetings we discuss ways and means of coping with this disease as experienced by those in the group. And in November, we celebrate our anniversary with a potluck dinner and just have fun.
