31 people - patients and their support persons - celebrated the groups' fifth anniversary with a delicious pot luck dinner and five door prizes donated by Don Walterhouse and Janine Walterhouse, Shirley's support persons and a basket of muffins made and donated by Bobbie Quilling, long time group member.
Shirley Garcia's husband Frank, son Rudy and daughter Barbara with her 2 daughters attended to honor the memory of their wife and mother respectively.
The group surprised Maxine and Shirley with the presentation of a plaque of appreciation with the inscription "Thanks for getting this group together and your hard work and time is greatly appreciated". Both Maxine and Shirley were very surprised and extremely touched by the gesture. They started the group to help themselves and others and have received so much more than they can ever give back.
We are all looking forward to another year of support, education and raising public awareness.
